Chapter 10 - The Sister's Confession

|

Luca didn't say a single word. He walked slowly toward Vanessa, his imposing frame casting a massive shadow over her. Every step he took was deliberate, terrifyingly silent on the plush carpet.

“I love you, Luca!” Vanessa cried out, backing up until her spine hit the bedroom wall. “I would never hurt your sister! You have to believe me! She’s been delusional ever since the crash!”

Luca stopped inches from her face. He didn't raise his hand. He didn't yell. The absolute stillness of his body was far more intimidating than any physical violence could ever be.

“You told me she was losing her mind,” Luca whispered, his voice a low, vibrating growl. “You told me her memories of the crash were hallucinations caused by trauma. You convinced me to keep her isolated in this room.”

Mia stepped forward hesitantly. Her hands were still shaking, but she held out the folded piece of photographic paper.

“Mr. Moretti,” Mia said softly, interrupting the heavy tension. “Sofia wanted you to see this.”

Luca turned his head and took the photograph from Mia’s hand. He unfolded it. As his dark eyes scanned the grainy image of Vanessa standing next to Dante Rossi, the air in the room grew completely suffocating. He flipped the photo over, reading his sister’s shaky, desperate handwriting.

He caused the accident. She knew.

Luca closed his eyes for a fraction of a second. When he opened them, the man standing in the room was no longer a fiancé. He was the ruthless, undisputed king of the city’s criminal underworld, and he had just discovered a traitor in his own bed.

He looked down at Sofia. “You saw Dante’s face the night of the crash?”

Sofia nodded, tears spilling down her pale cheeks. “He was driving the truck that ran us off the road. He got out to check if I was dead. I saw his face in the headlights. Vanessa knew he was alive, Luca. They planned it.”
