Chapter 15 - The Matriarch's Shadow

Standing perfectly still by the polished mahogany railing of the second-floor balcony was Teresa.
Her mother-in-law.
Teresa was not hiding. She was not cowering in fear like the rest of the guests.
She stood impeccably straight, wearing a dark, elegant evening gown, her hair perfectly styled.
But it was what she held in her hands that made Valeria’s heart stop completely.
In her right hand, Teresa held a pair of heavy, industrial-grade steel bolt cutters.
In her left hand, wrapped tightly around her fingers, was the frayed, cleanly severed end of the thick steel suspension cable that had held the chandelier.
