Chapter 12 - The Savior Unmasked
As the thick cloud of white dust slowly began to settle, the true, horrifying reality of the situation revealed itself.
The middle landing of the staircase was completely annihilated. A massive, tangled crater of crushed steel, shattered crystal, and broken marble dominated the space.
Valeria slowly lowered her arms, coughing heavily on the dust.
She stared up at the mountain of jagged metal and glass.
Her heart completely stopped beating. A cold, paralyzing realization washed over her entire soul.
If Lucia had not violently shoved her down those stairs, losing her balance and tumbling to the bottom floor...
She would have been crushed to death instantly. The massive brass core of the chandelier would have completely obliterated her and her unborn child in a single second.
Valeria turned her head, looking through the settling dust.
Lucia was huddled against the far wall of the upper landing, bleeding from several deep cuts caused by the flying glass, but miraculously alive.
Tears of profound, overwhelming realization streamed down Valeria’s face.
