Chapter 6 - The Camera Above the Desk

|

While I rested in the hospital, the legal machinery at the courthouse was grinding into motion.

Dana Ruiz sat in her small, cluttered office across town, reviewing the emergency orders Judge Cole had issued before the end of the day.

Marcus’s attorneys, led by the expensive and aggressive Gregory Sloan, had immediately filed motions to dismiss the assault claims, arguing that the incident was a minor, accidental collision blown out of proportion by my "pregnancy hormones."

They didn't know about the cameras.

Judge Cole, deeply suspicious of Marcus’s immediate denial in the courtroom, had quietly ordered the preservation of all security footage from the gallery and the clerk's desk.

Dana received the encrypted video files at 8:00 PM.

She opened the files on her laptop, her eyes narrowing as the silent footage played out.

The first camera angle showed the aisle clearly. It showed Vanessa turning deliberately toward me, dropping her shoulder, and accelerating just before the impact. There was no hesitation, no accidental stumble.

The second camera, positioned above the clerk's desk, captured the aftermath. It clearly showed my body slamming into the table. More importantly, it captured Marcus.

Dana watched the footage of Marcus carefully. He didn't flinch when I hit the table. He didn't move to help me. He simply watched, his expression cold and calculating, before turning to the bailiff and calmly stating that I had tripped.

The audio files, synced with the video, were even more damning.

Vanessa’s whisper was caught on the sensitive microphones near the counsel table: "You ruined everything."

And Marcus’s immediate, loud declaration: "She tripped."

Dana leaned back in her chair, a grim smile touching her lips.

The video didn't prove the years of emotional abuse, the financial control, or the gaslighting. But it proved something incredibly valuable in a court of law: Marcus Hale was a documented, verifiable liar.

The man who could stand in a crowded courtroom and blatantly deny an assault he had just witnessed could no longer dismiss my private allegations as the paranoid delusions of an unstable wife.

The narrative was finally shifting.
