Chapter 36 - The Proposal

|

The Sterling Pinnacle proposal was the most extensive presentation Claire had ever created.

She didn't just present a design; she presented a complete psychological shift for the building. She proposed tearing out the heavy mahogany and replacing it with sustainable, light-toned woods. She designed massive, open-air atriums and integrated indoor green spaces to shatter the suffocating, corporate atmosphere.

She presented her vision to the entire Sterling executive board.

When she finished, the room was silent.

David Sterling stared at the digital renderings on the screen for a long time.

"It's a complete dismantling of the original aesthetic," Sterling finally said, resting his hands on the table.

"Yes, it is," Claire agreed without hesitation.

"The Mercer family might take offense to such a drastic erasure of their history."

Claire looked directly at Sterling, her posture perfect, her confidence absolute.

"You didn't hire me to preserve a history that failed, Mr. Sterling. You hired me to build a future that succeeds."

Sterling’s lips twitched into a slow, appreciative smile.

"You are a very formidable woman, Ms. Ward."

"I'm a very good designer," Claire corrected smoothly.

"The contract is yours," Sterling announced, standing up and extending his hand. "Let's tear the place down."

Claire shook his hand, feeling the solid, undeniable weight of her own power.

She walked out of the boardroom, no longer managing the aftermath of someone else's decisions. She was the one making them.
