Chapter 23 - The Fall of the Commander

Ruiz froze, his hand hovering dangerously over his holstered weapon.

"What are you talking about?"

Ruiz demanded, his eyes darting around the dark street.

Suddenly, massive, blinding floodlights clicked on from the rooftops of the adjacent buildings. Three separate news vans, which Valeria had secretly positioned in the alleyways hours ago, rolled out into the open street, their live cameras pointed directly at the Commander.

"You are currently broadcasting live on three national news networks, Commander Ruiz,"

Valeria announced loudly, ensuring the microphones caught every single word.

"The entire country is watching a corrupt police officer attempt an illegal, armed raid on a domestic violence sanctuary to murder the wife he has been brutally beating for five years."

Ruiz stepped back from the gate, his arrogant facade instantly crumbling into absolute, humiliating panic as the cameras zoomed in on his face.

"You set me up!"

Ruiz screamed, raising his hands to cover his face from the blinding lights.

"I just exposed you,"

Valeria corrected him coldly.

Within minutes, the sirens of the Federal Internal Affairs Bureau approached the scene. Elena had called the highest authorities in the capital, bypassing the corrupt local precincts entirely.

Valeria stood perfectly still, watching with cold satisfaction as the federal agents stripped the corrupt Commander of his badge and his weapon, locking him securely in handcuffs before dragging him away in the back of a federal cruiser.
