Chapter 14 - The Hidden Ledger

It took Elena’s elite team of corporate investigators exactly four days to crack the Senator's armor.
It was late Friday night when Elena entered Valeria's home, carrying a thick, encrypted flash drive. Little Isabel was already asleep upstairs, completely safe in her colorful, starlit bedroom.
"What did you find?"
Valeria asked, pouring two glasses of red wine at the kitchen island.
"Senator Vargas has a hidden trust fund in the Cayman Islands,"
Elena replied, placing the flash drive on the marble counter.
"It is entirely funded by a shell corporation that specializes in silencing domestic assault charges against high-profile politicians and corporate CEOs."
Valeria felt a surge of absolute, freezing disgust. The man opposing her law was actively profiting from the blood and silence of battered women.
"He is running a cartel of silence,"
Valeria whispered, her grip tightening around the stem of her wine glass.
"And we are going to drop a bomb on it,"
Elena confirmed, raising her glass in a dark, victorious toast.
"The major news networks are hosting a live political debate tomorrow evening. Vargas will be there to denounce your bill again."
"Book me a seat in the front row of the audience,"

Valeria commanded, her green eyes flashing with lethal intent.
"I am going to execute his career on live television."
