Chapter 12 - Isabel's Law

The morning after the gala, the foundation’s headquarters buzzed with an electric, unstoppable energy.
Valeria sat behind her massive oak desk, the morning sunlight pouring through the bulletproof glass windows of her office. She was not looking at the glowing financial reports; she was drafting a legal document.
Clara walked into the office, carrying two cups of steaming black coffee.
"We have enough capital to open three new rapid-response centers by December,"
Clara announced, sliding a sleek digital tablet across the desk.
"We are not just opening centers, Clara. We are changing the system,"
Valeria stated, her eyes locking onto her chief social worker.
"I am drafting a legislative bill. 'Isabel's Law.' A state mandate that instantly freezes the financial assets and bank accounts of any indicted abuser."
Clara stopped halfway to the chairs, her eyes widening in shock.
"You want to cut off their money before the trial even begins?"
Clara asked, her voice hushed with awe.
"Financial abuse is the invisible chain that keeps women trapped in violent homes,"
Valeria explained, her voice cold and absolute.
"If we freeze their assets, the abusers cannot hire expensive defense teams, and they cannot starve their victims into dropping the charges. We level the playing field."
"The politicians will fight you tooth and nail on that,"
Clara warned, her brow furrowing with genuine concern.
"Let them try,"

Valeria smiled dangerously.
"I have my mother's lawyers on speed dial."
