Chapter 18 - A New Order

|

Alessandro turned toward the top of the grand stairs.

Emma Bennett stepped out onto the landing, wearing a simple navy dress, her golden hair tied neatly behind her head. She did not look like a frightened maid hiding from shadows; she looked like a woman who had finally reclaimed her power.

Beside her stood Lily, holding her new plush bear, her small hand safely resting in her mother’s grip.

Don Valenti looked up at the widow of the accountant he had ordered murdered five years ago.

"Emma..." Valenti begged, his voice cracking. "I spared your life back then... remember that! I let you run!"

"You didn't let me run, Carmine," Emma said, her voice carrying clearly over the quiet courtyard. "You couldn't find us. And for five years, my daughter and I lived in fear because of your greed."

She looked down at the man who had destroyed her family, then at Matteo and Victoria, who had tried to ruin the man who had given them protection.

"They don't belong in this city, Alessandro," Emma said softly, her eyes meeting Alessandro’s. "And they don't belong in this world."

Alessandro nodded once to Rocco.

"Take them to the federal prosecutor’s office in New York," Alessandro ordered flatly. "Deliver the full audio logs, the offshore bank accounts, and every piece of evidence linking the Valenti clan and Matteo to twenty years of organized crime. Let them spend the rest of their lives in a federal supermax facility."

Matteo gasped, dropping to his knees. "Federal prison?! Alessandro, no! Kill me! Please, just shoot me!"

"Death is too quick for a brother who breaks his blood," Alessandro replied coldly. "You will live every day knowing that the maid you despised is living in the palace you tried to steal."

As the guards dragged the screaming traitors toward the transport vans, Alessandro walked up the stone stairs to stand beside Emma and Lily.
