Chapter 11 - The Second Lens

|

A deafening explosion rocked the rear of the warehouse.

The main power grid exploded in a ball of orange fire, plunging the entire facility into pitch-black darkness.

The Valenti gunmen screamed in confusion as their high-powered headlights were blown out by flying debris.

For the Valenti clan, the darkness was a nightmare. For Alessandro Moretti and his elite team, who were all wearing military-grade night-vision goggles, it was a hunting ground.

THWIP. THWIP. THWIP.

Silenced gunshots echoed through the dark warehouse in rapid succession. One by one, the disoriented Valenti hitmen dropped to the concrete before they could even locate the source of the fire.

Within three minutes, the gunfire stopped completely.

The only sounds remaining in the vast space were the hum of dying car engines, the patter of rain on the roof, and the pathetic, ragged sobs of Matteo crawling through the dark.

The emergency backup lights flickered on, casting a dim, red glow over the blood-stained floor.

Fifteen Valenti shooters lay dead or incapacitated around the black vans.

Alessandro walked out from behind the SUV, his suit slightly dusty, his gun held loosely at his side. He stood over his brother, who was curled in a fetal position, weeping hysterically.

"Get him up," Alessandro ordered Rocco.

Rocco grabbed Matteo by his jacket collar and yanked him to his feet, forcing him to stand on his one good leg.

"Please... Alessandro... brother..." Matteo begged, tears and sweat dripping from his chin. "Give me a chance! I’ll tell you everything about the Valenti accounts! I’ll leave the country! You’ll never see me again!"

Alessandro looked into his brother's terrified eyes for a long moment.

"You put a camera in a child's bedroom, Matteo," Alessandro said softly. "You threatened the life of a woman who cleans my floors and a girl who hasn't even learned to read. You are no brother of mine."

He turned to Marco. "Search his phone. I want every contact, every bank code, and every safehouse linked to the Valenti family downloaded within the hour."

"Already done, Boss," Marco said, holding up a military cloner connected to Matteo's phone. "And sir... you need to see this."

Marco handed Alessandro the screen.

"What is it?"

"The doll wasn't the only device," Marco said quietly. "Matteo installed a second audio bug inside the estate three days ago."

"Where?"

Marco swallowed hard. "In the nursery closet. They were listening to Emma."
