Chapter 17 - The Flight to Europe

The botched abduction at the botanical garden was the final, devastating nail in the coffin for the Vance empire. The captured mercenaries, facing domestic terrorism and federal kidnapping charges, immediately turned on their employer. Within three hours of the shootout, a federal judge signed a massive, sweeping arrest warrant for Eleanor Vance.
But when the FBI tactical teams kicked down the heavy oak doors of the sprawling Atlanta estate, they found the mansion entirely empty. The expensive art remained on the walls, the tea was still warm on the mahogany desk, but the matriarch was gone.
"She was tipped off," Detective Jenkins said in absolute disgust, standing in Eleanor’s pristine library alongside federal agents. "She knew the extraction failed, and she didn't wait around for the fallout."
"She’s a ghost," a federal agent muttered, checking a computer terminal. "She chartered a private, untraceable jet out of a small airstrip in South Carolina two hours ago. Her passport was frozen, but a woman with her kind of money has half a dozen forged identities."
Back at the secure federal facility, Elena received the news of Eleanor’s escape with a mixture of profound relief and lingering anxiety. The immediate, physical threat to her daughter was gone, but the shadow of the matriarch still loomed across the ocean.
"She’s running, Elena," Jenkins reassured her over the phone. "She’s officially an international fugitive. Interpol has issued a Red Notice. She can never return to the United States, she can never access her primary fortune, and she can never come near your daughter again."

Elena hung up the phone, looking out the small window of the concrete bunker. Eleanor had fled, choosing a life of luxurious exile over a prison cell. But Elena wasn't satisfied with merely chasing the monster away. Marcus and Eleanor had built their empire on the suffering of others, using vast fortunes to silence their victims.
Elena realized that if she truly wanted to close this dark chapter of her life, she had to dismantle the very foundation of the Vance legacy. She didn't just want them in jail; she wanted to tear down the kingdom they had used to terrorize her. The criminal war was over, but the civil war was just beginning.
