Chapter 23 - The New Normal

With the trial officially concluded and the guilty locked away in federal prison, the oppressive, dark cloud that had hung over the Carter estate finally vanished completely. The massive house, once a terrifying place of secrets and slow poisoning, was now filled with bright sunlight, fresh flowers, and the steady, comforting sounds of recovery.
Daniel dedicated his life entirely to rebuilding what had been broken. He stepped back from the grueling, daily demands of his corporate empire, appointing trusted executives to run the business while he focused on his family.
His mother’s recovery was nothing short of a medical miracle. The grueling physical therapy sessions were exhausting, but she tackled them with the same fierce, unyielding determination she had used to build her real estate empire decades ago. She transitioned from being entirely bedridden, to a wheelchair, and finally, to using a silver walking cane.
Elena remained by their side, not as a hired servant, but as an indispensable pillar of their new life. Daniel legally sponsored her younger sister's college education, ensuring her family would never want for anything again. Elena managed the household, not out of contractual obligation, but out of genuine, deep-seated love for the woman she had bravely saved.
"You look tired, Daniel,"
Elena noted one evening, placing a warm cup of coffee on his desk in the study.
"Just reviewing some final legal documents,"
Daniel smiled, taking a sip.
"We are officially finalizing the divorce papers and seizing all of Clara's remaining hidden assets to donate to elder abuse charities."
"Good,"
Elena said fiercely.
"She deserves nothing."
Daniel looked at the brave, loyal woman standing before him.
"Thank you, Elena. For everything. We wouldn't be here without you."
May you like
Elena smiled warmly.
"We protect the people we care about, Mr. Daniel. That is simply what families do."
