Chapter 18 - The Final Dose

Inside the dark surveillance van, the heavy, suffocating silence was broken only by the chilling, sociopathic conversation broadcasting from the estate.
"I brought the concentrated syringe,"
Julian said, pulling a long, deadly needle from the inner pocket of his tailored suit jacket.
"This isn't the slow-acting drops you’ve been using. This is a massive, highly potent cardiac inhibitor. It will look exactly like a massive, natural heart attack. No coroner in the city will question the sudden death of an elderly woman with severe dementia."
Clara took the heavy syringe from his hands, her eyes gleaming with a sick, excited anticipation.
"Let's get this over with. I am incredibly tired of pretending to care for that miserable old woman."
Daniel felt his blood run entirely cold. He looked directly at Detective Thorne, giving him a sharp, definitive nod.
"Move in,"
Thorne ordered into his tactical radio.
"Execute the breach. Do not let them touch the patient."
Clara and Julian walked confidently up the grand staircase, entirely oblivious to the massive, heavily armed SWAT team silently surrounding the perimeter of the estate. Clara pushed open the door to the mother's bedroom, walking straight toward the bed with the deadly syringe held high.
Julian stood casually in the doorway, swirling his expensive scotch.
"Goodbye, Helen,"
Clara whispered, leaning over the frail woman, preparing to plunge the needle into her fragile arm.
Suddenly, the heavy oak door of the bedroom was violently kicked open with a deafening, explosive crash.
"Armed police! Drop the weapon! Drop the weapon now!"
May you like
Detective Thorne roared, storming into the room with his service weapon drawn and aimed squarely at Clara’s chest. Four tactical officers flooded the space, their heavy boots thundering against the floorboards, laser sights painting both Clara and Julian in glowing red dots.
Clara screamed in pure, unadulterated terror, dropping the lethal syringe onto the plush carpet as if it burned her flesh.
