Chapter 6 - The First Transformation

The ink on the contract had barely dried before the reality of her new life crashed down upon her.
That afternoon, a team of elite Italian stylists flooded her guest suite. Emily was poked, prodded, and measured until she felt entirely disconnected from the girl who had arrived in Santorini with a cheap backpack. They washed her hair, painted her nails a deep, blood red, and draped her in fabrics she had previously only seen in glossy magazines.
When the stylists finally retreated, Emily stood before the floor-to-ceiling mirror. She gasped.
She wore a breathtaking, backless gown made of midnight-blue silk that hugged her curves flawlessly. A delicate, fortune-worthy diamond necklace rested against her collarbone. She looked powerful, dangerous, and entirely unrecognizable.
The heavy mahogany doors of her suite clicked open.
Dante stepped into the room, wearing a tailored black tuxedo that fit him with lethal perfection. He stopped dead in his tracks. The cold, calculating mafia boss completely vanished for a microsecond. He stared at her, his dark eyes sweeping over every inch of her body, burning with a raw, unprotected hunger that made her pulse hammer wildly.
“You are a vision,” Dante breathed, his voice a low, rough rumble.
“It’s just an expensive disguise,” Emily deflected, feeling a sudden, intense flush creep up her neck under his intense scrutiny.
Dante walked slowly across the room, stopping mere inches from her. He reached out, his large, warm hands gently resting on her bare waist. The physical contact sent a jolt of pure electricity straight to her core.
“This is not a disguise, Emily,” he murmured, looking at their reflection in the mirror. “This is the woman you were always meant to be. The cheap aprons were the disguise.”
He lifted a massive, flawless diamond engagement ring from his pocket and slowly slid it onto her left ring finger. The weight of the stone felt like a shackle, but the way his thumb gently stroked her knuckles made her skin burn.
“Remember the rules,” Dante whispered, leaning down so his lips brushed her ear, causing her breath to hitch. “Tonight, we are deeply, passionately in love. You do not leave my side. You do not speak to anyone I do not introduce you to.”

“And if the Konstantinos family is there?” she asked nervously.
“Then we smile,” Dante smiled, a terrifying, beautiful expression. “And we let them know they have already lost.”
