Chapter 13 - The Dilemma

|

Emily sat on the edge of the bed for hours, staring at the microscopic drive resting on the nightstand. It felt heavier than a gold brick.

The dilemma tore her in half. If she handed the drive to Dante, he would secure his family's stolen fortune and destroy the Konstantinos syndicate. He had promised to wipe her debt clean. But handing over the drive also meant relinquishing the only leverage she possessed in a world dominated by ruthless, powerful men.

Could she truly trust the mafia boss who had kidnapped her? The man who had admitted his obsession, kissed her in a dark cabin, and locked her in a bunker for her own "safety"?

Her thoughts were interrupted by the heavy, metallic clank of the bunker doors unlocking.

Dante strode into the room. He looked exhausted, his white shirt stained with dirt and dried blood that didn't appear to be his own. The war was clearly taking a massive toll on his empire.

“We lost two warehouses in Piraeus,” Dante stated grimly, walking over to the small wet bar to pour a glass of whiskey. “Nikos is desperate. He’s pushing all his chips into the center of the table. He knows if he doesn't find the ledger soon, his investors will turn on him.”

Emily stood up, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. She couldn't play the helpless victim anymore. She had survived abusive bosses, crushing poverty, and a shootout. She was done hiding.

“Dante,” Emily said, her voice remarkably steady.

He turned to look at her, pausing with the glass halfway to his lips.

Emily walked over to the nightstand, picked up the tiny black drive, and held it up between her fingers.

“I found it,” she announced clearly.

Dante froze. The silence in the room was absolute, deafening. His dark eyes locked onto the drive, a flash of pure, terrifying realization washing over his sharp features.

“Where was it?” Dante whispered, his voice dropping into a dangerous, lethal register.

“Sewn into the lining of the suitcase my father gave me five years ago,” Emily replied, refusing to lower her hand. “I’ve been carrying your stolen four million euros across the world without even knowing it.”

Dante set his glass down. He took a slow, predatory step toward her.

“Give it to me, Emily.”

“No,” she challenged, clutching the drive tightly to her chest. “Not until we make a new deal.”
