Chapter 3 - The Cliffside Fortress

The Mercedes climbed the winding, treacherous roads of the island, leaving the crowded tourist hubs far below. They approached the highest, most isolated cliff on the northern tip of Santorini. A massive wrought-iron gate swung open automatically, revealing a sprawling, ultra-modern villa constructed of white stone and reinforced glass.
It was breathtakingly beautiful, and entirely terrifying. Heavily armed men patrolled the perimeter with silent, professional efficiency.
“Welcome to your new home, Emily,” Dante said as the car came to a smooth halt in the circular driveway.
“I have an apartment,” she retorted, refusing to move from the leather seat.
“You had an apartment,” Dante corrected, stepping out of the vehicle and offering her his hand. “My men have already retrieved your belongings and paid out the remainder of your lease. You no longer work at Bella Vista. You work for me now.”
“I am not your prisoner!” Emily shouted, batting his hand away and stepping out into the warm night air on her own.
“You are my guest,” Dante smiled, a dangerous, thrilling expression that made her heart race for all the wrong reasons. “But make no mistake, if you attempt to leave these walls without my permission, the consequences will be severe. The men guarding this estate do not possess my patience.”
He led her through the massive oak front doors into a foyer that looked like a modern art museum. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a dizzying, panoramic view of the dark Aegean Sea.
A quiet, older woman in a neat uniform appeared instantly.
“Maria will show you to your suite,” Dante instructed, loosening the top buttons of his black shirt. “Rest well, Emily. Tomorrow, we begin dismantling the lies your father told you.”
“You can’t keep me here against my will,” Emily threatened, though her voice lacked its earlier fire. The sheer scale of his power was finally crushing her resistance.

Dante stepped into her personal space, his imposing frame blocking out the light of the chandelier. He reached out, his knuckles brushing lightly, almost tenderly, against her cheek.
“I can do whatever I please, mia bella,” he whispered, his breath warm against her skin. “But soon enough, you will find that you have no desire to leave.”
