Chapter 14 - The Lioness

Sophia threw the heavy iron tongs directly at Isabella’s face.
It connected with a sickening crack against the bridge of Isabella’s nose. The gun went off, the bullet shattering the bathroom mirror into a thousand jagged pieces, missing Sophia by inches.
Isabella screamed, dropping the weapon as she clutched her bleeding face.
Sophia didn't hesitate. She tackled Isabella to the floor, her maternal instinct taking over with brutal efficiency. She pinned the struggling woman down, grabbing a shard of broken mirror glass from the tile and holding it directly against Isabella’s throat.
“Tell your men to stand down,” Sophia hissed, her green eyes blazing with lethal intent. “Tell them now, or I swear to God, I will paint this floor with you.”
Isabella froze, her eyes wide with terror as a drop of blood trickled down her neck. This wasn't the weak maid she had been expecting to bully.
“Stand down!” Isabella screamed to her two bodyguards in the hallway.
A second later, gunfire erupted downstairs. But it wasn't Isabella’s men firing. The safehouse guards had finally breached the house, systematically taking down the intruders.
Heavy boots pounded up the stairs.
“Sophia!”
It was Dominic’s voice. He burst into the bathroom, out of breath, his suit jacket gone and a gun in his hand. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Sophia straddling his ex-fiancée, a shard of glass against her throat.

Sophia looked up at him, her chest heaving, her hands covered in Isabella’s blood.
Dominic didn't look horrified. He looked at her with a profound, terrifying kind of pride.
