Chapter 12 - The Sit-Down

|

The Brooklyn warehouse was massive, cold, and echoing.

A long metal table sat in the center of the room. The heads of the Five Families were already seated, flanked by their armed enforcers. At the far end of the table sat Carlo Vitale, Isabella’s father, looking incredibly smug.

And sitting to his right was my mother, Victoria.

I walked into the warehouse with Enzo and ten of my heaviest hitters. The heavy metal doors clanged shut behind me, sealing us in.

“Dominic,” Carlo sneered as I approached the table. “You have a lot of nerve showing your face after disgracing my family.”

I didn't sit down. I rested my hands on the back of the empty chair at the head of the table.

“I didn't come here to apologize, Carlo,” I said smoothly. I looked at my mother. She refused to meet my eyes. “I came here to set the new rules.”

Carlo laughed, a harsh, grating sound. “You don't make the rules anymore, boy. Your own mother came to us. She agrees you are compromised. We are taking the docks, the real estate, and your seat. Consider it the price for your life.”

“Is that right?” I asked, tilting my head.

I gave Enzo a barely perceptible nod.

Suddenly, the side doors of the warehouse slid open. Twenty more of my men marched in, heavily armed, carrying military-grade rifles. They surrounded the table instantly, locking their lasers onto Carlo and his men.

The smug smile dropped from Carlo’s face. The other bosses shifted nervously in their seats.

“I am Dominic Moretti,” I declared, my voice echoing like thunder. “And I do not share my throne.”
