Chapter 14 - The Federal Subpoena

We did not hesitate. Maya immediately contacted a senior prosecutor she trusted at the United States Attorney’s Office specializing in white-collar crime.
Within forty-eight hours, the federal machinery was in full motion. The ledger provided the exact roadmap the FBI needed to subpoena the firm’s encrypted servers, untangle Lorraine’s complex web of shell companies, and freeze millions of dollars in illicit assets.
Because Daniel was already on supervised probation for a violent felony, the sudden, overwhelming federal investigation completely shattered his remaining stability.
I was at the park pushing Hope on the swings when Maya called with the update.
"The FBI raided Daniel’s new apartment and Lorraine’s rental house simultaneously at dawn this morning," Maya reported, sounding immensely satisfied. "They seized hard drives, physical documents, and several luxury vehicles purchased with the embezzled funds."
"Did they arrest them?" I asked, pushing the swing gently.
"Not yet. They are building a massive RICO case," Maya explained. "But Daniel’s probation officer was notified of the federal investigation. Because the terms of his probation strictly prohibit associating with known felons or engaging in fraudulent activity, his probation has been officially revoked pending a hearing."
I stopped the swing, pulling Hope into a tight hug.

"He’s going to prison," I whispered, the reality finally sinking in.
"For a very long time, Claire," Maya confirmed. "And Lorraine is going right there with him."
