Chapter 12 - The Truth Goes Viral

|
By five o'clock that afternoon, Mrs. Alvarez uploaded the raw, unedited footage from her porch camera directly to the same community platform where Lorraine’s video was trending.
The video was terrifyingly clear.
It captured the moment the side door swung open, showing the inside of my kitchen.
It showed Corey standing over my pregnant body with his fist raised. It showed Lorraine screaming at him to hit me again. And it clearly captured my trembling voice begging him not to hurt the baby before I lifted the cast-iron skillet to defend my life.
Mrs. Alvarez added a simple caption: This is the truth. Hannah Whitman is a victim who saved her baby’s life.
The internet exploded.
Within three hours, Lorraine’s sob story was completely annihilated. The view count on the doorbell video soared past half a million. The local news media, which had briefly considered covering Lorraine’s claims, immediately shifted their focus to the horrific domestic violence captured on tape.
Thousands of comments filled the page:
“That poor woman! She was eight months pregnant!”
“The mother-in-law is an absolute monster!”
“Arrest them both immediately!”
By eight o'clock that evening, local news reporters were parked outside Lorraine’s house, demanding answers about the assault and the stolen trust funds.
I sat in my cozy living room, nursing Maya, watching the television screen as Lorraine tried to retreat into her garage while reporters shouted questions at her.
