Chapter 69 - The Final Promise

Time is the only enemy that no amount of wealth or power can defeat.

As we reached the twilight of our lives, the physical frailties of age began to set in, but our minds and our hearts remained as sharp and devoted as ever.

Alexander was sitting in his favorite armchair in the parlor, looking out at the heavy rain.

I walked over and sat on the arm of his chair, resting my hand on his shoulder.

"Whatever happens, in the years to come,"

Alexander said quietly, placing his hand over mine,

"I want you to know that you are the greatest thing that ever happened to me. You are my salvation."

"And you are mine,"

I whispered, leaning down to rest my cheek against his.

"We saved each other."
