Chapter 57 - A Letter to the Future

Late that night, long after the guests had retired to their suites, I sat at the antique writing desk in our bedroom.
I pulled out a piece of thick, cream-colored estate stationery and picked up my gold fountain pen.
"Who are you writing to?"
Alexander asked, stepping out of the adjoining bathroom, drying his hair with a towel.
"Our great-grandchildren,"
I answered honestly, dipping the pen into the inkwell.
"They aren't even born yet,"
Alexander smiled, walking over and resting his hands on my shoulders.
"I know,"
I said, looking down at the blank paper.
"But I want them to have something real. When they inherit all of this, the money, the companies, the estate... I want them to know the story of the people who built it."
"Tell them we were relentless,"
Alexander murmured, kissing the curve of my neck.

"I will tell them we were fiercely devoted,"
I corrected him softly, beginning to write the first elegant lines across the page.
