Chapter 62 - The Vows Renewed

For our fortieth wedding anniversary, we did not throw a massive, opulent gala.

We had spent our youth entertaining the elite, navigating the treacherous waters of high society. Now, we only wanted each other.

We walked down to the small, private chapel located at the very edge of the estate grounds. It was just the two of us, and a local priest who had known our family for decades.

I wore a simple, elegant ivory dress. Alexander wore a classic black suit.

"Do you, Alexander, reaffirm your promise to love, honor, and protect this woman?"

The priest asked, his voice echoing softly in the empty chapel.

"With every single breath left in my body, I do,"

Alexander vowed, his dark eyes locking onto mine, burning with the exact same fierce intensity as the day we first married.

"And do you reaffirm your promise to him?"

The priest turned to me.

"For all of time, and whatever comes after,"

I promised, tears of pure, unadulterated joy slipping down my cheeks.

We didn't need an audience. We only needed the truth that existed between our intertwined hands.
