Chapter 58 - The Winter's Embrace

Months passed, and the vibrant colors of autumn slowly gave way to the crisp, freezing beauty of winter.

The first major snowstorm of the year blanketed the entire estate in a thick, pristine layer of blinding white snow. The towering oak trees looked like crystal statues against the gray sky.

Alexander and I sat in the grand parlor, the massive stone fireplace roaring with a heavy, comforting fire.

We were wrapped in a thick wool blanket, sharing a single, large armchair, watching the snow fall furiously outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.

"I used to hate the winter,"

Alexander admitted quietly, staring into the flames.

"Why?"

I asked, tracing circles on the back of his hand.

"It always felt so cold, so isolating. Like the world was closing in,"

He explained, his voice carrying the faint, distant echo of his difficult childhood.

"And now?"

I asked softly.

"Now,"

May you like

Alexander smiled, pulling me tighter against his chest,

"I have everything I need right here to keep me perfectly warm for the rest of my life."
