Chapter 64 - The Spring Returns

The years flowed by, turning into a gentle, beautiful rhythm.
Every spring, the estate burst into a riot of magnificent colors. The cherry blossoms bloomed, raining pale pink petals across the long, winding driveway.
We spent our days walking the extensive garden paths, holding hands, talking about everything and nothing.
"Do you remember the night the old manor burned?"
Alexander asked one afternoon as we sat on a stone bench near the private lake.
"I remember the heat,"
I replied softly, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"I remember thinking that it was the end of the world."
"It was the end of their world,"
Alexander corrected me gently, looking out across the sparkling water.
"It was the fiery, necessary beginning of ours."
