Chapter 14 - Rebuilding Rosa

|
Four months after that terrifying night in the penthouse, Rosa gave birth to a healthy, six-pound baby girl named Esperanza—the Spanish word for hope.
My nonprofit foundation established a permanent housing trust for Rosa and her baby, ensuring she would never have to worry about rent or basic living expenses while she completed her education.
We gathered at a quiet neighborhood park to celebrate Esperanza’s baptism.
Maria, Elena, and Sarah were all there, sitting on picnic blankets under the shade of a massive oak tree, laughing and passing the baby around.
Rosa walked over to where I was standing near the wooden fence, holding a glass of lemonade.
“Evelyn,” Rosa said softly, her eyes glistening with happy tears. “I don't even know how to begin thanking you. If you hadn't walked into that kitchen...”
I reached out and gently squeezed her hands.
“You saved yourself, Rosa,” I told her warmly. “You had the courage to copy that flash drive and hold onto it when you were terrified. I just gave you the platform to use it.”
She looked down at her daughter, who was sleeping peacefully in Maria’s arms.
“She’s going to grow up knowing that women don't have to be afraid of powerful men,” Rosa said softly.
“That’s the greatest gift you could ever give her,” I agreed.
As I watched my team laughing together in the sunlight, my phone vibrated in my pocket.
