Chapter 10 - The Courthouse Steps

|
At nine o'clock on Saturday morning, the steps of the federal courthouse were packed with dozens of news cameras, reporters, and legal observers.
I stood at the podium wearing a sharp navy suit, flanked by my legal team, with Rosa, Maria, and Elena standing directly behind me.
Microphones from every major news network in the city were clustered in front of the stand.
“Yesterday, Mr. Adrian Sterling released a statement claiming that the allegations against him were the result of a personal vendetta,” I spoke into the microphones, my voice echoing clearly across the plaza. “Today, we are here to present the undeniable truth.”
I stepped aside, gesturing for Maria to step up to the podium.
For the next twenty minutes, Maria, Elena, and Rosa spoke sequentially into the cameras. They detailed every threat, every falsified document, and every attempt at intimidation they had suffered at Adrian’s hands.
As Rosa finished her statement, describing how Adrian had threatened her unborn child, several journalists in the front row were visibly shaken.
I stepped back up to the podium and pulled out a single sheet of paper.
“This morning, my legal team officially filed a thirty-million-dollar class-action lawsuit against Sterling Tech and Adrian Sterling personally,” I announced calmly. “We have also turned over all digital evidence—including drafted police reports and recorded threats—to the District Attorney’s office.”

The plaza erupted into a flurry of shouted questions and flashing camera bulbs.
I didn't answer any questions. I turned around, took Rosa’s arm, and guided her safely inside the courthouse doors, leaving Adrian’s manufactured public relations narrative completely shattered on the pavement outside.
