Chapter 1 - The Cast-Iron Betrayal

|
I walked into my fiancé’s luxury penthouse expecting to ask for his passport number for our upcoming vacation. Instead, I stood frozen in the foyer, watching a nightmare unfold under the warm recessed lighting of his pristine kitchen.
Rosa, his twenty-two-year-old housekeeper, was kneeling on the marble floor. She was crying hysterically, her arms tightly wrapped around her stomach as if trying to shield her unborn child from a storm.
Adrian stood over her, his tailored jacket immaculate, his posture commanding.
“Get rid of that baby,” Adrian said, his voice flat and devoid of any human empathy. “It will destroy my career.”
Rosa looked up at him, her eyes red and swollen.
“You promised you'd help me,” she sobbed.
Adrian reached down and casually adjusted his platinum cufflinks.
“I promised nothing. Take the money, leave the city, and don't contact me again.”
He stepped closer, leaning down until his shadow completely engulfed her trembling frame. His voice dropped into a terrifying threat.
“If you talk to anyone, I'll tell immigration you stole from me.”
My stomach turned to ice.
Adrian thought I was simply the woman he planned to marry—a quiet, gentle partner who admired his corporate drive. He had completely forgotten what I did before we met.
I silently pulled my phone from my purse, activated the high-definition video recorder, and stepped into the open kitchen.
“No,” I said.
Adrian spun around instantly.
For one split second, sheer panic broke through his polished, handsome expression.
“Evelyn?” he stammered, stepping back. “This... this isn't what it looks like.”
I walked toward them, my phone held steady, recording every square inch of his face.
“It looks like you got your employee pregnant and are threatening her because the truth might ruin your reputation,” I said coldly.
His gaze snapped down to my phone screen.
“Stop recording right now.”
I ignored him, kneeling beside Rosa on the marble floor. I placed a gentle hand on her shaking shoulder.
“Do you want to leave with me, Rosa?”
She looked at me, caught between terror and hope, and nodded frantically.

Adrian stepped between us and the hallway exit, his jaw clenched tighter than a vise.
“She isn't going anywhere.”
