The smear campaign orchestrated by Sterling’s media machine worked with devastating efficiency. By noon, Julian’s corporate headquarters was a chaotic storm of ringing phones, panicked investors, and frantic executive meetings. The board of directors, notoriously risk-averse and highly sensitive to public scandal, had convened an emergency session without Julian’s consent.
Julian sat at the head of the massive boardroom table, his hands clasped tightly together, facing the grim expressions of his closest colleagues and the skeptical glares of the senior shareholders.
"Julian, the optics of this situation are incredibly damaging," Richard, the chairman of the board, stated bluntly. "Our stock has dipped three percent this morning alone. The media is painting you as volatile and aggressive. We cannot afford this level of personal drama bleeding into our corporate operations."
"The photograph was entirely taken out of context," Julian defended calmly, projecting an aura of control he absolutely did not feel. "My ex-wife attempted to physically accost my daughter at her school. I intervened to protect my child. Any father would have done the exact same thing."
"We understand that, on a personal level," Richard sighed, rubbing his temples. "But Sterling is capitalizing on the chaos. He has formally requested a massive, independent audit of our financial records, citing concerns over your erratic leadership. And because he holds a significant minority stake through his proxy firms, we are legally obligated to comply."
Julian closed his eyes for a brief second. An independent audit would freeze all operational assets for weeks. It would paralyze the company, leaving them completely vulnerable to Sterling’s hostile takeover.
"I have absolutely nothing to hide in those ledgers," Julian said firmly.

"We know," Richard replied, his tone heavy with regret. "But until the audit is completed, the board has voted unanimously to place you on a temporary, mandatory leave of absence, effective immediately. We need to distance the brand from the scandal."
Julian stared at the chairman, the gravity of the betrayal sinking in. He had built this company from the ground up, and now, he was being locked out of his own empire because he had dared to protect his daughter.
