The sterile, glass-walled conference room of Marcus Sterling’s downtown law firm offered a panoramic view of the bustling city, but Julian couldn't appreciate the skyline. He sat rigidly in a high-backed leather chair, the thick legal envelope from Victoria torn open and spread aggressively across the polished mahogany table. Marcus, a seasoned family law attorney and one of Julian’s closest confidants, adjusted his glasses as he read through the aggressive demands.
"She is petitioning for full, sole custody of Lily," Marcus stated grimly, tracing a line on the document with his expensive pen. "And she is demanding a complete re-evaluation of the divorce settlement, claiming she was emotionally coerced into signing the original agreement."
"She abandoned us," Julian said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "She manipulated Lily, lied to my face, and nearly destroyed my company. Now she thinks she can just walk back into our lives and take my daughter?"
"She knows she doesn't have a strong legal leg to stand on regarding her past behavior," Marcus explained, leaning back in his chair. "But look at the legal counsel she has retained. Harrison and Associates. They are the most expensive, ruthless litigators in the state. Victoria doesn't have the personal capital to afford their retainer."
Julian frowned, leaning forward to inspect the law firm's letterhead. "Then who is funding this?"
"I did some digging this morning after you called," Marcus sighed heavily, pulling a secondary file from his briefcase. "Victoria is currently residing in a luxury penthouse owned by a subsidiary of Vanguard Holdings. Vanguard is controlled by Arthur Sterling."

"My biggest corporate rival," Julian realized, a wave of absolute clarity washing over him. "Sterling has been trying to execute a hostile takeover of my firm for two years. I blocked his last merger attempt."
"Exactly," Marcus nodded. "This isn't just a custody battle, Julian. This is corporate warfare disguised as a family dispute. Sterling is weaponizing your ex-wife to drain your emotional and financial resources. He wants you distracted, broken, and desperate so he can finally seize your company. And he is using Lily as the leverage to break you."
