Chapter 14 - The Mistress's Demise

Chloe looked at the ruined man in front of her, calculating her odds in real-time.
"Chloe, baby, please," Julian begged, reaching out a trembling hand toward her. "We can still go to Paris. We can fix this."
Chloe let out a harsh, bitter laugh, stepping out of his reach. "Go to Paris with what money, Julian? Your wife just froze all your accounts, and you just got fired on live audio in front of the entire corporate board!"
"I still have the penthouse!" Julian pleaded desperately.
"The penthouse is in my name, Julian," Chloe stated, her voice turning to pure ice. "And since you're currently broke and unemployed, I think it's best if we part ways. Don't ever call me again."
She didn't even look back at him. She spun on her stiletto heels, grabbed her designer clutch from a nearby table, and practically sprinted toward the ballroom exit, eager to distance herself from the radioactive blast radius of Julian's imploding life.
Julian stood entirely alone in the center of the grand ballroom, a king completely stripped of his castle, his crown, and his court. He looked at me, tears streaming down his face, a pathetic, broken shell of the man I had once loved.
"Claire... please," he wept, dropping his head into his hands. "I have nothing."
"You have exactly what you earned, Julian," I said, my voice eerily calm and devoid of all pity.
I didn't scream. I didn't gloat. I didn't need to. The universe had just delivered absolute, poetic justice, and I was merely the messenger.

I turned my back on him.
"Come on, Leo," I said softly, extending my hand to my son. "Let's go home."
