Chapter 7 - The Untouchable Maid

|
Sylvia’s hand hung in the air, trembling with rage. Mara squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the physical blow, entirely used to being the punching bag for wealthy, cruel people.
But the blow never landed.
"If you touch her, Sylvia, you will leave this hotel in a body bag."
Rafe’s voice didn't just fill the room; it froze the oxygen. It was cold, absolute, and devoid of any mercy.
Sylvia slowly lowered her hand, turning to look at her fiancé in utter disbelief. "Rafe? You're defending this... this maid? After I caught her with her hands all over you?"
"She was massaging a cramp," Rafe lied smoothly, his face an impenetrable mask of stone. "A medical necessity because my useless doctor was asleep. She did exactly what I ordered her to do."
"She is disgusting!" Sylvia shrieked, pointing a manicured finger at Mara. "I want her fired! Right now! I want her banned from this property!"
Rafe slowly wheeled his chair forward, placing himself directly between Mara and Sylvia. It was a protective, dominant gesture that sent a shockwave through Mara’s chest. No one had ever protected her before.
"Mara is not fired," Rafe stated, staring Sylvia down with dead, pitch-black eyes. "In fact, Mara is now my personal aide. She answers only to me. She doesn't answer to the housekeeping manager, she doesn't answer to the guards, and she certainly doesn't answer to you."
Sylvia gasped, taking a step back as if she had been slapped. "You can't do this. My father—"
"Your father is a guest in my territory," Rafe interrupted ruthlessly. "Do not test my patience tonight, Sylvia. Get out of my suite."
Sylvia’s face flushed a deep, ugly red. She glared at Mara with a hatred so pure it was terrifying. "You’ll regret this," she hissed, before spinning on her heel and storming out of the room, her heels crunching on the broken glass of the champagne bottle.
The heavy doors slammed shut.
Mara stood trembling, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. "Rafe, you shouldn't have done that. She’s going to make my life a living hell."

Rafe reached out, gently wrapping his strong hand around Mara’s shaking wrist.
"You are mine to protect now," Rafe said softly. "You are untouchable."
