Chapter 14 - Ruin of the Morettis

|

By sunrise, the Moretti family had ceased to exist.

With Vance Moretti dead and Bianca facing a lifetime in an underground Commission prison, their captains surrendered their territories to the Rossi syndicate. The Commission officially transferred all Moretti shipping lines, real estate, and financial assets directly to Dominic Rossi.

The story hit the front pages of every newspaper in New York: The Fall of the House of Moretti.

I spent the afternoon sitting in the rose garden with Carmela. The morning sun was warm, and the air smelled of blooming jasmine.

Carmela held my hand, her eyes bright and clear.

“You know, Skyler,” Carmela said softly, sipping her tea. “When my husband died twenty years ago, I thought this family was doomed. Dominic grew up so cold, so distant... he thought power was the only thing that mattered.”

She looked at me, a sweet, maternal smile gracing her lips.

“You saved his soul, child,” she whispered. “You taught him that love is worth fighting for.”

I felt a lump form in my throat. “He saved me too, Mrs. Rossi.”

“Call me Carmela,” she corrected gently, kissing my cheek right beside my stitches. “You’re family now.”

Footsteps echoed along the stone path.

Dominic walked into the garden, dressed in a sleek charcoal suit. He looked relaxed for the first time since I had met him. The dark shadows beneath his eyes were gone, replaced by a deep, peaceful warmth.

He walked over to my chair, leaning down to kiss my lips softly in front of his mother.

“I have a surprise for you, Skyler,” Dominic said, holding out his hand.
