Chapter 12 - The Beast Unchained

I sprinted through the dark hallways, firing behind me to keep the hitmen at bay. I knew this mansion better than anyone—I had spent two years scrubbing every inch of its floors in the dark.
I ducked into the grand kitchen, sliding behind the stainless steel island just as a hail of bullets tore through the wooden cabinets above my head.
“You can’t hide, you fat bitch!” Bianca’s voice echoed through the dark kitchen. “Dominic isn't here to save you! He’s stuck in Brooklyn watching his docks burn!”
I crept around the opposite side of the island, my hands steady on the pistol.
“You never understood Dominic, Bianca,” I called out, my voice echoing off the tile. “He doesn't care about the docks. He cares about his family.”
“You’re not his family!” Bianca shrieked, stepped into the moonlight near the pantry, raising her gun. “You’re just a maid!”
BOOM!
The heavy oak front doors of the mansion blew inward with explosive force.
A blinding spotlight washed over the grand foyer as heavy automatic gunfire tore through Bianca’s remaining three hitmen, dropping them instantly to the floor.
Dominic Rossi stepped through the smoke.
He looked like a demon summoned from the underworld. His shirt was covered in blood, a heavy shotgun rested in his right hand, and his dark eyes swept the room with terrifying speed.
He had realized the dock attack was a decoy and turned his convoy around midway through Brooklyn.
Bianca gasped, spinning around, raising her gun toward Dominic.
“Dominic—wait!” she screamed.
Before she could squeeze the trigger, Dominic fired his shotgun.
The blast struck the wall an inch from Bianca’s head, shattering the plaster and sending her flying onto the tile, her gun clattering out of her reach.

Dominic strode across the kitchen, his heavy boots crunching on broken glass. He kicked her gun across the floor, then grabbed Bianca by her hair, pulling her up to her knees.
“You dared step into my home again?” Dominic whispered, pressing the scorching hot barrel of the shotgun against her chin. “You dared touch my woman?”
