Chapter 10 - Echoes of Sirens

Edward looked at Victoria as if she were a dangerous stranger. "You are a monster," he whispered softly.
Without taking his eyes off her, Edward pulled his phone from his inner jacket pocket and quickly speed-dialed emergency services.
Victoria’s eyes widened in sudden, blinding panic as she realized what he was doing. The realization hit her that her control over him was completely shattered.
"No! Edward, hang up!" she panicked, lunging forward with her manicured nails aimed at his face. "Don't you dare call the police!"
Edward caught her wrist in mid-air, twisting it back and shoving her hard against the marble pillar. "Stay down!" he roared, shielding his shaking mother with his body.
"911, what is your emergency?" the operator’s voice squawked from the phone speaker.
"I need police and an ambulance at the Vance estate immediately," Edward commanded, his voice cold and steady. "My wife has physically assaulted my mother."
Victoria scrambled to her feet, looking wildly toward the heavy oak front doors. Realizing her leverage was gone and prison was looming, she turned and tried to bolt into the night.
Edward anticipated her move. He intercepted her at the threshold, grabbing her by the waist and slamming her down onto the entrance rug, pinning her hands behind her back.

Victoria thrashed underneath him like a wild animal, screaming curses and death threats. "I’ll destroy you, Edward! I’ll take everything you have! Let me go!"
Within ten agonizing minutes, the flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers illuminated the long driveway. Sirens echoed loudly through the quiet night air, signaling the end of Victoria’s reign.
