Chapter 2 - The Fiancée’s Fury

|

Before Mia could even process the magnitude of his words, a furious female voice cut through the quiet intimacy of the room like a blade.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO HIM?”

Vanessa DeLuca stood in the bedroom doorway.

Damian's beautiful fiancée was wearing an incredibly expensive crimson silk dress that clung to her figure. Her blonde hair fell perfectly over her shoulders, but her aristocratic expression was twisted with ugly, unadulterated anger.

Her icy blue eyes moved from Mia's frightened face, down to Damian's wet legs, and finally to the damp towel still clutched in Mia's hands.

“What did you do?” Vanessa hissed, stepping into the room.

Mia quickly scrambled backward, putting distance between herself and the mafia boss.

“Miss Vanessa, it was an accident. I was only—”

“You stupid, clumsy girl!”

Vanessa rushed forward, her high heels clicking aggressively against the hardwood floor.

“Do you have any idea how fragile his medical condition is?” she yelled.

She violently snatched the towel from Mia's hand, throwing it onto the floor.

“You could have seriously hurt him! He has nerve damage!”

Mia lowered her head, the familiar sting of humiliation burning her cheeks. “I'm sorry, ma'am.”

“Sorry won't save your job!” Vanessa pointed a manicured finger toward the heavy oak door. “Get out. You're fired. Pack your things immediately.”

Mia's eyes filled with hot tears. She desperately needed this job.

Her mother was recovering from invasive heart surgery. The rent on their tiny apartment was two weeks overdue, and the hospital billing department had already sent another final warning regarding the unpaid statements. Losing her position at the Russo mansion meant losing the only steady income keeping her fragile family afloat.

She turned to leave, her shoulders slumping in defeat.

But before Mia could take a second step toward the door, Damian spoke.

“She's not going anywhere.”
