Chapter 16 - The Final Reckoning

|

Don DeLuca was trembling violently. The arrogant mob boss who had orchestrated Damian’s accident was now facing a resurrected monster.

“Damian, wait,” DeLuca pleaded, raising his hands in surrender as his own men abandoned him. “We can make a deal. I’ll give you back the territory. I’ll pay reparations.”

“You tried to kill me,” Damian stated coldly, stepping closer. “You murdered my driver. You paid a doctor to poison me in my own bed.”

“It was just business!” DeLuca cried out, sweating profusely. “You know how this life works!”

“And then you tried to use your daughter to steal my empire while I suffered,” Damian continued, his voice dropping to a lethal, vibrating whisper. “You didn't just cross a business line, Antonio. You crossed a blood line.”

DeLuca realized negotiations were over. With a desperate, terrified scream, he reached for the gun tucked into his waistband.

He was far too slow.

Damian raised his weapon and fired a single shot.

The bullet struck DeLuca perfectly in the center of his chest. The older mob boss collapsed backward against the armored SUV, sliding slowly to the ground, dead before his body hit the pavement.

The war was over.

Anthony walked up behind Damian, lowering his rifle. He looked at the dead boss, then at his own leader, standing tall and victorious.

“The remaining DeLuca capos are surrendering, Boss,” Anthony reported quietly. “The city is yours. Completely.”

Damian lowered his gun. He looked out over the burning docks, the adrenaline finally beginning to fade from his system. He had reclaimed his throne, crushed his enemies, and secured his empire.

But as he stood there in the smoke and blood, he realized none of it mattered if he didn't have someone to share it with.

“Clean this up, Anthony,” Damian ordered, turning back toward his SUV. “I’m going home.”
