Chapter 17 - The Queen of the Estate

When Damian walked through the heavy oak doors of the mansion, the sun was just beginning to rise, casting a warm, golden glow over the marble floors.
Mia was waiting for him in the grand foyer. She had been pacing for hours, her heart heavy with anxiety. When she saw him walk through the door, covered in soot but completely unharmed and standing perfectly tall, a massive wave of relief washed over her.
She didn't care about professional boundaries anymore. She ran across the foyer and threw her arms around his neck.
Damian caught her effortlessly, lifting her off her feet and burying his face in her neck, breathing in the sweet, comforting scent of her.
“It’s over,” Damian murmured fiercely against her skin. “DeLuca is dead. The syndicate is secure. You never have to worry about them again.”
He set her down gently, keeping his hands resting on her waist. He looked into her eyes, the dark, violent mafia boss completely melting away, leaving only the man who loved her.
“I told you I’d come back to you,” he whispered.
“I never doubted it,” Mia smiled, tears of joy shining in her eyes.
Three months later, the Russo mansion was transformed. The dark, oppressive atmosphere had been entirely replaced by light and life.
Mia was no longer a maid, nor was she just an assistant. She was the undisputed Queen of the Russo empire. Damian had married her in a quiet, beautiful, heavily-guarded ceremony in Italy, surrounded only by the people they trusted most.
They stood together on the balcony of the master suite, overlooking the sprawling, manicured gardens of their estate. Damian wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.
“Anthony just called,” Damian murmured, kissing her neck softly. “The hospital foundation paperwork went through. Your mother’s new charity wing is officially fully funded.”
Mia smiled, leaning back against his solid, powerful chest. “She’s going to be so happy. Thank you, Damian.”

“I should be thanking you,” Damian replied, turning her around in his arms. He looked deeply into her eyes. “You didn't just give me my legs back, Mia. You gave me my life back.”
He leaned down and kissed her, a deep, passionate promise of forever. The crippled king had risen from the ashes, and he had found the perfect queen to rule the empire by his side.
