Chapter 12 - The Purge Begins

|

Within sixty seconds, four massive, heavily armed men in dark suits burst into the bedroom.

Anthony, Damian’s ruthless and fiercely loyal head of security, took one look at the sobbing Vanessa on the floor and the cold fury radiating from his boss, and instantly knew something catastrophic had happened.

“Boss?” Anthony asked, resting his hand on his holstered weapon.

“Take her to the basement holding room,” Damian ordered, not even looking at his former fiancée. “Take her phone. Do not let her speak to anyone. If she tries to run, break her legs.”

“Damian, no! Please!” Vanessa screamed as two massive guards hauled her roughly to her feet. “My father will kill you if you touch me!”

“Your father is a dead man,” Damian replied softly, staring dead ahead.

As they dragged Vanessa out of the room, her hysterical screams echoing down the marble hallway, Anthony stepped closer to the wheelchair.

“What happened, Boss?”

“We have a rat problem,” Damian said clinically. “Dr. Sterling is working for the DeLuca family. They orchestrated my accident. They’ve been poisoning me with nerve blockers for three years.”

Anthony’s face drained of color, followed immediately by a flush of murderous rage. “Give me the word, Damian. I’ll burn the DeLuca compound to the ground tonight.”

“Not yet,” Damian said, raising a hand. “We need to move quietly. If DeLuca knows we’re onto him, he’ll go to ground. First, we need to get Dr. Sterling. Bring him to the warehouse on 5th Street. I want to have a conversation with him.”

“Consider it done,” Anthony nodded grimly, turning to leave.

“And Anthony,” Damian called out.

The security chief stopped. “Yes, Boss?”

“Send a car to Mia’s mother’s apartment,” Damian instructed, gesturing toward the terrified maid standing in the corner. “Move her to one of my secure luxury suites downtown. Pay off all her outstanding medical bills immediately. From now on, she is under the direct protection of the Russo family.”

Mia’s jaw dropped. “Mr. Russo, you don't have to—”

“You saved my life tonight, Mia,” Damian interrupted gently, looking at her with profound gratitude. “It is the least I can do.”
