Chapter 30 - An Eternal Promise
Late in the afternoon, the sunset painted the sky in shades of orange and pink once again.
Exactly like that day so many years ago.
Ethan and Rosa sat on the wooden bench facing the oak tree.
They were old and frail now, but their hands were clasped just as tightly as they had been at the beginning.
Lily, now a middle-aged woman, walked with Oliver from the shelter toward them.
They stopped and looked at their parents.
A perfect picture of absolute peace.
Ethan closed his eyes, feeling the cool, refreshing breeze.
He remembered the sound of Rosa sobbing in the dark.
He remembered Lily's timid smile when he first held the little girl's hand.
He remembered the promise of the three stones.
"No one gets left behind."
They had kept that promise completely, until the very end of their lives.
The wind rustled through the canopy of the ancient oak.
The white roses in the garden trembled gently.
Beneath the tree, three small stones lay still, forever bound to Mother Earth.
Their story did not begin perfectly.
It began with scratches, pain, and invisibility.
But love does not demand a perfect beginning.
It only requires brave people who choose to stay for each other.
