Chapter 13 - The Storm
That summer, a massive storm swept through Nashville.
The wind howled around the estate.
The power went out across the region.
Darkness enveloped the house.
Lily fearfully buried her face in Rosa's chest on the living room sofa.
Oliver sat curled up in a corner, biting his lip.
Ethan lit a few candles and brought out an old guitar.
He sat on the floor, right in the middle of the darkness.
"You don't know how to play the guitar, Daddy," Lily sniffled.
"I know how to pluck a few notes," Ethan winked.
He began playing a clumsy melody.
And sang a made-up song about Mr. Buttons being afraid of thunder.
The rhythm was a mess.
The lyrics were ridiculous.
But Lily began to laugh.
Oliver laughed too.
Rosa leaned her head on Ethan's shoulder, humming along.
Outside, the storm raged on.
But inside, no one felt afraid anymore.
Because darkness cannot invade a place filled with light.
