Chapter 28 - Midnight at the Watchtower

|
Gabriel drove his custom SUV through the streets of Boston like a man possessed, running red lights, pushing the engine to 120 miles per hour.
Tires screeched as he smashed through his own wrought-iron gates at Beacon Hill, crashing the vehicle into the fountain in the front courtyard.
He sprinted into the grand foyer, gun drawn, his heart pounding a desperate, terrified rhythm against his chest.
The front hall was a nightmare.
Two of Gabriel’s guards lay unconscious on the marble floor. Marcus was slumped against the wall near the kitchen, holding a bloody towel to his shoulder, breathing heavily.
"Gabriel..." Marcus groaned, trying to stand up.
"They... they used an insider... one of the new security recruits cut the power..."
"Where is she?" Gabriel screamed, grabbing Marcus by his collar.
"WHERE IS HARPER?"
"They... they took her out through the gardens," Marcus choked out.
"Noah is safe... he was in the panic room... but Harper... she surrendered herself to protect the boy..."

Gabriel let go of Marcus, standing up in the dimly lit foyer. His breathing was ragged, his hands shaking with an unholy mixture of rage and terror.
He had spent his whole life avoiding emotional vulnerability, only to have the one woman he loved ripped from his arms.
