Chapter 17 - Turning the Tide

By 5:00 PM, the gunfire inside the mansion died down to sporadic pops.

Gabriel’s reinforced security force, armed with heavy artillery, had completely flanked Vance’s mercenaries, pinning them down in the courtyard.

Marcus re-entered the hallway, blood dripping from a small cut on his cheek, but his expression was triumphant.

"The perimeter is secure, Gabriel," Marcus reported, sweeping his weapon low.

"Vance’s strike team has been completely neutralized. Half of them are dead, the rest are in zip-ties."

"And Lawson?" Gabriel asked coldly, wiping a smudge of soot from his cheek.

"Lawson didn't join the assault," Marcus revealed, pulling out an encrypted tablet.

"The coward was waiting at the South Boston harbor, preparing to board Vance’s cargo vessel to escape to international waters. But your legal team beat him there."

Gabriel took the tablet, reviewing the live video feed.

Federal agents—real, uncorrupted federal marshals—were currently raiding the harbor. Gabriel’s elite legal team had delivered a massive dossier of financial records, wiretaps, and security footage straight to the United States Attorney’s office thirty minutes ago.

On the screen, Detective Derek Lawson was shown dragged out of a harbor warehouse in handcuffs, his badge stripped, his face pale with utter defeat.

Gabriel turned to Harper, holding out the tablet screen.

"Look, Harper," Gabriel said softly.

Harper stared at the screen, watching her worst nightmare being loaded into the back of an armored federal transport van.

"It's over?" she whispered, trembling.

"His life is officially ruined."
