Chapter 27 - The Mole Unmasked

|

Gabriel approached the gramophone, his gun raised, his eyes scanning the surrounding steel catwalks.

"Show yourself, Moreau!" Gabriel roared, his voice echoing off the corrugated iron walls.

The recording continued to play:

"I don't need to show myself, Gabriel. I’ve already won. You spent three weeks looking for my mercenaries at the docks, while my real asset was sitting inside your own house."

Gabriel’s blood ran completely ice-cold.

Inside his house.

He whipped out his satellite phone and dialed Marcus’s direct line.

It rang once. Twice. Three times.

Finally, a voice picked up—but it wasn't Marcus.

It was the smooth, menacing voice of Jean-Luc Moreau.

"Hello, Gabriel," Moreau purred over the phone connection.

"Your friend Marcus fought bravely, but my men were already inside the Beacon Hill perimeter before you even left the Opera House."

"If you touch her," Gabriel gasped, his voice breaking into a raw, feral growl, "I will skin you alive in front of your entire family."

"Oh, I'm not going to touch her, Gabriel," Moreau chuckled softly.

"I'm taking her. She’s going to be a lovely bargaining chip while I reclaim my empire."
