Despite the rising tension, Gabriel insisted on attending the annual Boston Children’s Hospital Charity Gala at the Symphony Hall on Saturday night.
It was a strategic move—a public demonstration of power to prove that the King of Boston was completely unfazed by foreign threats.
Harper looked breathtaking in a floor-length emerald green silk gown, her diamond engagement ring sparkling brilliantly under the grand crystal chandeliers. Gabriel stood beside her in a tailored tuxedo, looking every bit the lethal, aristocratic ruler of the city.
Society elite, politicians, and high-ranking judges bowed their heads as the couple walked through the ballroom.
"Smile, sweetheart," Gabriel whispered into her ear as they danced slowly to a waltz.
"Every camera in the city is watching us."
"I'm trying," Harper murmured, resting her cheek against his shoulder.
"But I feel like there are eyes on us from the upper balconies."
Gabriel’s eyes subtly scanned the grand velvet-lined balconies overlooking the dance floor.
Near the shadow of Box 4, a tall man in a dark suit stood holding a glass of champagne. As Gabriel’s gaze locked onto him, the man raised his glass in a silent, mocking toast before fading into the dark curtain behind him.
