To build public momentum for the upcoming senate hearing, our PR team booked me on a prominent national morning news show.
I sat in the bright studio in New York, wearing a sharp navy suit. The host, a veteran journalist known for her hard-hitting interviews, leaned forward with genuine interest.
"Emma, you are the CEO of a highly successful financial advocacy firm, and now you are spearheading state legislation," the host began. "But your motivation is deeply personal. You survived a devastating betrayal that left you financially compromised. How do you respond to critics who say this bill is just a personal vendetta?"
I didn't flinch. I looked directly into the camera lens.
"This isn't a vendetta," I stated, my voice calm, clear, and perfectly modulated. "A vendetta is an emotional reaction to a past wrong. This bill is a calculated, structural defense for the future. When a spouse hides millions of dollars to force their partner into submission, it is not a disagreement. It is extortion."
The host nodded, captivated. "And what do you say to the women watching this right now, who might be in the exact position you were in ten years ago?"
