Chapter 18 - The idea had been growing in Lily's mind ever since she burned Richard's letter.

She sat in the living room with Arthur, a sprawling mess of legal pads and financial documents on the coffee table.
Arthur was feeling much better, his color returning, his energy slowly rebuilding.
He looked at the papers, entirely confused by the sudden influx of corporate planning.
"What exactly are we looking at here, Lily?" Arthur asked, putting on his reading glasses.
"I want to officially register a non-profit foundation," Lily announced clearly.
"I want to call it the Dawn Initiative."
Arthur looked up, recognizing the fierce, undeniable spark of purpose in his daughter's eyes.
"The legal system is built to favor the person with the deepest pockets," Lily explained, pacing the room.
"Men like Richard use the courts not to seek justice, but to bludgeon their victims into submission."
"They drag out divorce proceedings for years until the woman goes bankrupt and gives up."
"The Dawn Initiative will provide high-level, aggressive legal representation for victims of financial and legal abuse."
"We will supply forensic accountants, private investigators, and secure housing."
"We will give them the exact same weapons the monsters use, but we will use them to protect."
Arthur took off his glasses, a slow, incredibly proud smile spreading across his face.
For a decade, he had watched her shrink, hide, and attempt to make herself invisible.
Now, she was actively building a fortress to shield others.
"It will require a massive amount of starting capital," Arthur noted pragmatically.
"I am selling the diamond jewelry Richard bought me," Lily stated without a single ounce of hesitation.
"I am selling the luxury cars, the designer bags, and the overseas property deeds I won in the settlement."
"I am taking every single dollar he used to try and buy my soul, and I am turning it into his worst nightmare."
Arthur chuckled, a deep, resonant sound of absolute joy.
"I have a substantial retirement fund that I haven't touched," Arthur added.
"We can use it to secure the office space downtown and hire the first paralegal."
Lily stopped pacing and looked at her father, her heart swelling with profound gratitude.
"Are you sure, Dad? That's your life savings."

"My life is right here in this room," Arthur said, pointing directly at her.
"Let's build an empire, Lily."
