Chapter 37 - The Final Verdict for Victor

The fallout from the deposition was catastrophic for Victor Vance. Once the evidence of the shadow ledger, the illegal mercenary surveillance, and the bribery attempts became part of the official court record, his corporate empire began to cannibalize him.

The board of directors at Vance Tech Industries held an emergency meeting and voted unanimously to oust Victor as CEO, citing extreme moral turpitude and massive financial liabilities. His stock plummeted, rendering a vast portion of his wealth entirely worthless overnight.

A week later, the judge in the divorce proceedings issued a summary judgment. It was a complete and total victory for Eleanor.

I stood in the courtroom gallery beside Chloe, watching as the judge delivered the final ruling.

"Based on the overwhelming, irrefutable evidence of severe coercive control, financial fraud, and physical endangerment," the judge stated, looking sternly at Victor, "the court grants Eleanor Vance a full dissolution of marriage. Furthermore, the court orders the immediate repatriation and return of the forty million dollars stolen from her trust, plus an additional twenty million in punitive damages. Mr. Vance, you are stripped of all joint assets, and a permanent, lifetime restraining order is hereby issued."

Eleanor burst into tears, covering her face with her hands. Her shoulders shook with the profound, overwhelming relief of a woman who had just had the heavy, suffocating chains removed from her neck.

Victor stood up, his face pale and haggard. He looked at Eleanor, opening his mouth as if to offer one final threat, but the bailiffs immediately stepped forward, placing their hands on their holstered weapons. He swallowed his pride, turned, and walked out of the courtroom, a disgraced and ruined man.

Eleanor turned around and practically tackled me into a massive hug.

"Thank you," she sobbed into my shoulder. "You saved my life, Maya. You actually saved my life."

"You saved yourself, Eleanor," I whispered, holding her tight. "We just gave you the tools to break the lock. Now, go live your life. It is entirely yours."

As we walked out of the courthouse into the bright Chicago sunshine, I felt a deep, resonant validation. The Phoenix Initiative wasn't just a foundation; it was an executioner for abusers. And we were exceptionally good at our job.
