Chapter 13 - Blood in Brooklyn

|

An emergency tribunal was convened at an undisclosed estate in Westchester, overseen by the five senior elders who governed the international syndicate alliance.

Victor Kresnik had been summoned under the false pretense of receiving a final peace offer from Alexander Pellegrini. He arrived flanked by four of his top lieutenants, wearing an arrogant smirk, convinced he had successfully forced the alliance into submission through terror.

The grand library was deathly silent as Alexander, Teresa, and I entered together.

Victor leaned back in his leather chair, looking at me with a sickening sneer. “Brought your pretty assistant to watch your surrender, Pellegrini?”

Alexander didn't bother responding to the insult.

Instead, I stepped forward and placed a small digital speaker onto the center of the conference table. Beside it, I laid out certified bank statements, the extracted phone backup logs, and Paulo’s sworn affidavit.

“What is this garbage?” Victor sneered, dismissing the papers.

I pressed the play button on the speaker.

Victor’s slurred, arrogant voice blasted through the quiet room:

“...Old Anton actually believed family loyalty meant something! The old fool drank his wine right after I had his heart medication swapped at my own dinner table... Paid the Toronto doctor fifty grand from the Luxembourg shell account to call it natural causes...”

The atmosphere inside the room turned arctic.

Victor’s arrogant smirk vanished instantly, replaced by a look of sheer, paralyzing horror.

The lieutenants sitting beside him stiffened, their heads snapping toward their leader in absolute disbelief and fury. Murdering a rival was business; murdering your own blood patriarch to usurp power was an unpardonable treason that demanded death.

“That recording is a digital fake!” Victor roared, jumping to his feet. “Pellegrini manufactured it!”

“The voice frequency match is certified by federal forensic experts,” Teresa Vitale stated coldly. “The Luxembourg bank account listed in the recording matches the wire transfers logged on your personal burner phone, Victor.”

One of Victor’s senior lieutenants stood up, looking at his boss with pure hatred. “You murdered Old Anton?”

“It’s a lie!” Victor screamed, reaching for his concealed weapon.

Before he could clear his holster, his own lieutenants drew their weapons and pinned him roughly against the heavy mahogany table.

The chief elder of the council stood up, looking down at Victor with utter disgust.

“Victor Kresnik,” the elder pronounced gravely. “Your authority is stripped. Your assets are forfeited to the alliance. And your life is surrendered to your own men to settle the blood debt of Anton Kresnik.”

Victor was dragged screaming from the room by his own former lieutenants.

His reign of terror was over.
