Chapter 1 – The Evidence

Officer Daniel Reyes was the first to step into the dining room.
His eyes swept across the shattered porcelain, the blood on the hardwood floor, and the twenty silent guests frozen around the table.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
Adrian forced a nervous smile.
"It was an accident."
Before anyone else could answer, I raised my phone.
"The emergency call is still recording."
The officer looked directly at me.
"Ma'am, are you requesting medical assistance?"
"Yes."
"And I'd like to press charges."
The room erupted.
His mother insisted I was overreacting.
His father demanded that lawyers be called.
Several relatives suddenly claimed they hadn't actually seen anything.
Officer Reyes calmly separated everyone into different rooms for individual statements.
Within fifteen minutes, the stories no longer matched.
Some said the plate slipped.
Others claimed Adrian threw it onto the table.
One even insisted I had dropped it myself.
The contradictions piled up.
While paramedics treated the cut above my ear, I quietly slipped Maya's flash drive into the hidden pocket of my handbag.
She caught my eye only once.

Her expression carried a single warning.
Don't open it here.
